Arena Breakout: Infinite Launches and Tries To Do What Escape from Tarkov Can’t

Arena Breakout: Infinite has launched as a full game on Steam, coming to the extraction shooter market ahead of the full launch of Escape from Tarkov, the decade-old spearhead that has remained in beta for the last eight years.

It has already been noted that ABI is doing things that Escape from Tarkov can’t, such as standing up a reputable anti-cheat system. The team at MoreFun Studios has also kicked pay-to-win mechanics to the kerb and balanced the in-game marketplace to be less advantageous for ‘wealthy’ players.

Arena Breakout: Infinite Beat Tarkov

Escape from Tarkov is coming to Steam at some point, but following a confirmation from Battlestate Games a couple of weeks ago, no indication has surfaced to suggest when it’ll arrive.

In the meantime, Arena Breakout: Infinite has landed on Steam and is going like gangbusters, securing 88% positive reviews within a few hours of being online.

The team at MoreFun Studios has revealed a pledge to support the community and update the game in line with their feedback, and a few key changes have already been made to address that, including:

  • Re-balancing the availability of high-tier items by removing certain high-tier ammos and gear from the market
  • Making the largest secure cases obtainable through in-game missions
  • Removing the ability to purchase in-game currency (Koen) with real money

This has now given rise to Arena Breakout: Infinite having the subtitle, ‘the fairest and most rewarding free-to-play extraction shooter’.

MoreFun has stressed that ABI has one of the strongest anti-cheat systems in the genre, which is an issue that has plagued Escape from Tarkov for many years. It’s why so many Escape from Tarkov players prefer the PvE-focused gameplay loop, which is something that Arena Breakout: Infinite doesn’t have because it doesn’t really need it.

Escape from Tarkov isn’t really a pay-to-win game, but there have long been discussions around the ‘packages’ that users can buy to play the game, including the ‘Unheard Edition’. This comes with stacks of top-tier weapons, items, cases, and exclusive cosmetics, almost all of which have a tangible edge over a player with a ‘lesser edition’ at times.
