Embark Studios could be doing away with Expeditions in ARC Raiders for good, as the studio is currently working on a new and improved system for the extraction shooter.
Expeditions, ARC Raiders’ version of character wipes, were halted back in August due to fan complaints that the system was underbaked and not worth the time and effort to progress through. Embark noted that the system would return new and improved in early 2027, but a recent interview suggests that it could be scrapped altogether.
“We Want To Make Some Significant Changes To The Expedition System”
Speaking with PCGamesN, ARC Raiders’ executive producer Aleksander Grøndal discussed the impending changes to Expeditions and how, perhaps surprisingly, they might never come back.
Grøndal noted that the system itself was not perfect by any means, and that the team wanted to make “significant changes” to the system as a whole. That said, he didn’t delve into how those changes could present themselves; instead, he suggested that it could be scrapped altogether, as the team remains uncertain about how to move forward.
“Maybe we’ll scrap the whole system altogether. That is on the table, too. Right now, the team is trying to figure out what the next steps for Expeditions are.”
Regardless, we probably won’t know what the future holds for Expeditions until we enter the new year, but fans have the Frozen Trail update to look forward to in the meantime. Launching on October 8, it’s shaping up to be the biggest update to ARC Raiders yet, and there’s hope that it can boost player numbers back to its glory days.
