Apple has just announced that the Apple Vision Pro headset device will release in the United States on February 2nd, 2024.
It will be available at physical stores in the U.S. and online. Pre-orders for the new device will launch on January 19th, starting at 5 AM pacific standard time.
Apple first announced the Apple Vision Pro in June 2023, with a price tag of $3,499 USD. All of the key features were listed in the reveal trailer, including Apple Arcade and controller support.
The Apple Vision Pro is intended to push the boundaries of technology. But it’s more of an all-purpose computer than a gaming device.
Apple CEO Tim Cook calls it “the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created”, ushering in a new age of “spatial computing”.
This approach would explain the higher price tag, compared to other headset devices.
You can purchase a Meta Quest 3 starting at $499.99 USD, and it only just released in October. It’s easy to find the Meta Quest 2 for just half that price.
The Apple Vision Pro will come with 256GB of storage. That’s certainly more than the standard-level Meta Quest 3.
Users probably won’t need too much storage for games released on Apple Arcade, either. Apple states that you can access “more than 250 titles on Apple Arcade” like Sonic Dream Team.
Apple also mentioned spatial games, such as Game Room and Super Fruit Ninja. These specifically “take advantage of the powerful capabilities of Apple Vision Pro”.
This suggests there is still an avenue for Apple to offer a gaming-specific alternative later on. A gaming model could have a more reasonable price.
