Earlier this week, Microsoft publicly announced that it was working with AMD on the next-gen Xbox consoles as part of a new “strategic multi-year partnership”. Now, just days later, AMD has given its comments on what this new agreement with Microsoft means for the future of Xbox and gaming in general.
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su says that both AMD and Microsoft are “advancing a bold shared vision for the future of gaming”. This future, Su says, will allow for “seamless gameplay across any screen, placing gamers at the center of the experience anywhere.”
Su said that, moving forward, AMD will be “going beyond” just building the custom chips used in Xbox hardware. The company will now move to creating a “full roadmap of gaming optimized chips, combining the power of Ryzen and Radeon for consoles, handhelds, PCs, and the cloud.”
She added that it will happen with full backwards compatibility that will allow players to enjoy their games across various platforms. This new ecosystem, as Su called it, will help deliver the next generation of gameplay and graphics to players using AI to help create models to improve overall rendering.
“From console to cloud to handheld, AMD and Microsoft are building the future of immersive gaming,” Su said. “We are so excited to be working with Microsoft to bring all of this tech to gamers everywhere.”
