Amazon’s God of War Adaptation Will Reportedly Recast Two More Major Characters For Season 2

God of War is being adapted into a fully fledged TV show for Amazon, and development hasn’t been the smoothest of sailing so far. There has already been one major recast for the show, and job roles suggest two characters will have new actors and actresses; however, these seem like predetermined decisions.

The catastrophic news was delivered that the God of War TV show was to recast Kratos following Ryan Hurst’s on-set injury.

It has significantly hampered the show’s development and production schedule, and we’ve gotten word of a report suggesting that Season 2 will recast two more characters in the God of War adaptation.

Whereas the Ryan Hurst injury was an unforeseen accident, job listings suggest that the long-term plan was always to find new actors/actresses to play Atreus and Thrud.

In a report by MP1st, the outlet discovered casting calls for Atreus and Thrud for S2, along with descriptions for both:

Teen Joshua (Atreus):

After growing up in isolation in a cabin in the woods, Joshua went on a daring and dangerous adventure alongside his father that bonded the two of them but threw everything into question. At journey’s end he came upon a revelation suggesting he may have a destiny greater than he could have imagined. When we find him in Season 2, Joshua is eager to learn more about the truth of who he is. He is empathetic, brave, and immensely curious about the world. But as he finds his new identity and grows into manhood, his trusting-nature leaves him vulnerable to manipulation. Must be comfortable with physical combat, especially archery.

Teen Ruth (Thrud):

Because of an incident that changed the course of her life, Ruth is wise beyond her years. Confident, intelligent, and sarcastic, Ruth’s tough exterior masks a childlike vulnerability that causes her to be vindictive and cruel when hurt. Though she has a complicated relationship with her parents, Ruth shares a special connection with her grandfather, the king, and she believes he’ll choose her to be the heir to the throne one day. Must be comfortable with physical combat.’

It’s claimed that Season 1 will follow the events of the 2018 game, whereas Season 2 is geared towards God of War: Ragnarok.

Both characters age several years in Ragnarok, which necessitates older-looking actors for both roles.

There’s been no official word yet on who has been drafted in to replace Hurst as Kratos, or how much this has delayed production. Keep checking back for the latest updates.
