A new report from Tom Warren at The Verge has claimed that Microsoft is planning to close its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard next week.
Citing an anonymous source who’s reportedly in the loop with such plans, the report claims that Microsoft is planning to finalize the deal on October 13, 2023. The report states that this is the intended date on which the company will announce the 20-month process to buy Call of Duty maker Activision Blizzard has concluded.
Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard has faced several setbacks over the near 2-year proposal, with the UK CMA being the last major hurdle to overcome. The CMA has until the end of today to gather opinions and has until the end of next week to give its final opinion. However, the CMA has already provisionally agreed to the deal following changes which include Microsoft selling its cloud rights to Ubisoft.
In addition to the CMA, the FTC has also presented a major hurdle for the deal and will appeal the outcome that was given in December that the deal can go ahead.
Last month, a slew of leaked documents leaked online regarding the deal, with the FTC putting the blame on Microsoft for the leaks.
The Microsoft and Activision deal officially has until October 18, 2023 to close the deal.
