Activision is changing how multiplayer matchmaking works in some areas of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
In a social media post on Wednesday, the studio said that it has “continued to learn a lot about multiplayer matchmaking through player data and community feedback.” What’s more is that Activision has noticed the excitement surrounding various elements of the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Because of that response, changes are coming to the current game to certain playlists.
“Starting this week with Season 05, we’re updating Black Ops Classic, Quick Play, and Party Games in Black Ops 7 with a new matchmaking system inspired by those classic games,” Activision said.
“We’ll continue to offer Open playlists in Black Ops 7, and we’ll also include Open playlist options in the upcoming Modern Warfare 4 Beta. Thanks for your continued feedback as we stay focused on player experiences that go beyond expectations. Jump in and let us know what you think.”
The topic of multiplayer matchmaking has been a point of contention for years among the Call of Duty player base. With Skill-based Matchmaking being a focal point in recent years, Activision changed the system for Black Ops 7. That said, they reverted in many ways after the game’s launch.
With this change, there might be hope for some players that a larger reversion to how matchmaking used to be will come with Modern Warfare 4 this year. Whether that happens, however, remains to be seen.
