The Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve team has issued an apology amid disappointment from Steam players regarding the pre-order bonus that provides access to Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War.
A pre-order bonus for Ace Combat 8 included a copy of The Belkan War, but there was some confusion among Steam players, as it turns out it’s not a standalone title like it is on console.
While those on XBOX Series X|S and PlayStation 5 can launch The Belkan War separately, the Steam version is tied to Ace Combat 8, and the developer has now explained the situation.
Belkan War Separate Release Not Possible on Steam
In a post on Steam, it was clarified that The Belkan War cannot be released on Steam as a standalone application “due to licensing restrictions and platform-related considerations.”
While apologizing for any confusion or frustration “caused by our failure to clearly communicate this distribution method in advance,” it was added the Ace Combat team is “currently evaluating possible options, including discussions with our platform partners.”
However, the team made it clear that they “cannot guarantee that any changes will be made,” though they are “exploring potential solutions” and will “continue working with relevant partners.”
Ace Combat 8 early access began on September 28, ahead of a full release on October 1, and has achieved Mostly Positive reviews on Steam from players despite the Belkan War issues.
SteamDB shows an all-time peak of over 37,000 concurrent players in the title, easily surpassing the all-time concurrent record of Ace Combat 7, which stands at just under 14,000, and Wings of Theve sits second on the Steam top-sellers list, behind only Gears of War: E-Day.
