Warhorse Studios co-founder Martin Klima has admitted he doesn’t understand the hype for Grand Theft Auto 6, but is still hopeful it can push up the price of games long-term.
GTA 6 is arguably the most anticipated game of all time, yet Klima, whose Warhorse Studios is behind the Kingdom Come series, is not one of the thousands of players waiting to play the latest release.
Instead, he won’t play the title unless he’s “somehow forced to,” though he still holds out hope that it can drive up the price of video games in the future.
Warhorse Co-Founder Hopes GTA 6 Raises Game Prices
Speaking to PC Gamer, Klima said: “I am not going to be playing GTA 6 unless I’m somehow forced to. And the reason why it is so popular, it beats me. It’s something which I just fail to understand.”
Despite those comments, he’s glad “somebody” is making these games, which he describes as “technological marvels,” and believes that, long-term, the only play for game developers is to raise the cost of games, something he hopes GTA 6 can spark.
“The last thing you can do is increase the unit price. That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost.”
Klima added that he feels Rockstar and Take-Two are the only developers “who can afford, or who can dare” to increase the cost of games, something he feels is “long overdue” and “necessary for this business to survive.”
GTA 6’s pricing has already been revealed, with the Standard Edition coming in at $79.99, and the Ultimate Edition clocking in at $99.99.
This is slightly higher than the usual baseline standard for the majority of XBOX Series X|S and PlayStation 5 AAA games, with $69.99 the most common price.
