Headmaster Solange invites you to the Headmaster’s Tower in Escape Academy 2, but to get to the roof, you need to figure out the two-word solution required to unlock access, and some deceptive clues make this tricky.
One of the things I love most about Escape Academy 2 is the ‘smaller’ puzzles located around Campus. The little one-off headscratchers that you’re not under pressure to solve. A Surprising Start requires a puzzle to reach the next major escape room.

A Surprising Start Door Solution in Escape Academy 2
The answer to the A Surprising Start door code is STAY AWAY.

Everything will become clear as I take you through the various hidden clues and the logic behind the puzzle, but if you want to cut to the chase and go through the door, enter STAY as the first word, then AWAY for the second, and you’ll be able to reach the Headmaster’s Tower.
How to Unlock Door and Get on the Roof of the Headmaster’s Tower in Escape Academy 2
Here’s my complete walkthrough showing you how to solve this puzzle.
- First, we need to round up all the clues in the stairwell near the locked door.
- Each floor has a different hint, so here they all are:
- The second word has a ‘U.’ No wait…double that!
- The secret phrase STarts STrong.
- The secret phrase contains 3 ‘A’s.
- Both words end with the same letter.
- The first word starts with ST, per the ‘STarts STrong’ hint—ST_ _ / _ _ _ _
- We know we need three As, so using some trial and error and logic, STA_ / A_A_ was one of the most realistic outcomes I could think of.
- Now, we need to fill in the gaps, and the second word has a ‘U’…sort of.
- What the clue actually means is it has a Double U…say it out loud…W—STA_ AWA_
- We’ve been told ‘Both words end with the same letter,’ and it just happens that Y is a good fit for both (it might actually be the only letter that fits, I think).
- This gives you STAY AWAY, the code for the door!
The ‘double that’ clue for U is easily the most deceiving aspect of this puzzle. For ages, my partner and I tried to shoehorn U into the second word, but it didn’t add up.

A sneaky deception I’m sure the developer intended, but it’s still an excellent example of Escape Academy 2 training your brain and using outside-the-box thinking.
