Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to be the culmination of many years of hard work for Rockstar Games. It has the unenviable task of topping GTA 5, but has GTA 6 been delayed to further the wait even more?
The world will stand still when Grand Theft Auto 6 finally releases. Other games will actively avoid launching titles around it, and millions of players worldwide will be settling into Leonida for the next few years.
As we await news of GTA 6 Trailer 2, Rockstar Games has provided an update on the game’s status. Let’s see if it’s good news or bad.
Was Grand Theft Auto 6 Delayed?

Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed from its initial launch period of 2025 to 2026.
Recent rumors circulated for a while that Grand Theft Auto 6 would launch in 2026 following a delay. However, Take-Two Interactive fully reiterated its intentions to launch GTA 6 in 2025. Take-Two even went as far as to confirm a specific period of Fall 2025.
Before their insistence, most of us assumed a 2026 release date for GTA 6. It made the most sense, considering how long it takes to develop a game of this size and scope. Plus, there’s the simple matter of money. Take-Two and Rockstar continue to rake in loads of cash from GTA Online’s Shark Cards, netting them more than anyone can count—hundreds of millions of dollars.
This has turned out to be the case.
What is The Grand Theft Auto 6 Release Date?
Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 is set to release on May 26, 2026.
The news came from a disappointing Rockstar Games news post on May 2.
It reads: “Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026. We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.”
It’s the news we all feared, but in many ways expected. We now have to hope that Rockstar sticks to this date and there aren’t any subsequent delays in 2026.
