In November 2025, a live-action Far Cry TV series was officially announced. The series is slated to be executive-produced by Noah Hawley, known for shows like Fargo, and Rob Mac from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Set to stream on Hulu as part of the streamer’s deal with FX, the show is among many video game adaptations in the works for television or film. Now, Hawley is shedding new light on his vision for the series. Among his plans, he explains why he’s not adapting any Far Cry game in its entirety.
Noah Hawley Details His Approach to Far Cry TV Series
Speaking with Deadline about the forthcoming series, Noah Hawley explained that what attracted him to Far Cry is that each game is its own separate story from anything that came before. He related that that’s how he approached the Fargo series at FX as well. He believes that this approach will allow the team to potentially place each season in a different setting.
Furthermore, he explains that he’s not adapting any of the games entirely. Instead, he will analyze the franchise and mold his vision of what he thinks a Far Cry story is. You would go on to explain why the structure of a video game doesn’t always translate well to a television series.
“We can have a larger conversation about the strengths and weaknesses of adapting video games, specifically because games are built in a way that doesn’t make for the best drama.
“When you play a video game, you only really move forward through the gameplay section, and then you have these cut scenes that you can skip, so when you go to adapt those games, you have to be aware that makes the human drama kind of irrelevant to the storyline. That is death for a show.”
As of yet, there are no major casting announcements set for the show. It is also not known when the show will premiere. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates in the future.
