An Xbox VP has clarified rumors about whether Project Helix will be a first-party or third-party console.
For those unaware, the new Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, revealed that the codename for their next-generation console is Project Helix. Later at GDC, it was also revealed that developers will receive alpha versions of the upcoming console in 2027. Now, a VP has clarified some details about the upcoming console.
Project Helix is a First-Party Xbox Console
There has been some recent confusion regarding whether Project Helix is a third-party or first-party console. Jason Ronald, the VP at Xbox, has confirmed that it is indeed a first-party console. The confusion arose from a thread on Neogaf, where Insider KeplerL2 stated that Project Helix “won’t be sold directly to consumers, but you will be able to buy an ASUS/MSI/etc Helix machine” when asked whether AMD would eventually sell the Helix chip.
Jason Ronald quickly cleared the air by stating, “Project Helix will be available as a 1st party Xbox console.” However, that’s not where it ends, as there is a question of whether the Helix chip will be available to other hardware manufacturers and not just the console. The VP did not answer that question. From what we know about Project Helix, it features a Custom AMD SoC, has AMD FSR Next and Deep Texture Compression.
In other news, the ID@Xbox Showcase is returning this week, with a focus on games like Aphelion, Solo Leveling Arise Overdrive, and more. Additionally, the Xbox Game Pass additions for April 2026’s Wave 2 have been revealed, and 10 games will leave the service this month. Jason Ronald needs to go too alongside Matt Booty and Aaron Greenberg. Had no idea this guy was VP now. After Microsoft bought Activision the Activision people should have taken over the gaming division look at their success until Matt, Phil, and Sarah destroyed them.
