The movie adaptation of Helldivers is set to begin pre-production within the next two weeks, filmmaker Justin Lin revealed at Cinema Con.
Helldivers, starring Jason Momoa of Aquaman, is part of Sony’s venture into expanding gaming titles into big-screen adaptations, and pre-production of the film is set to begin.
Helldivers Pre-Production Begins in 2 Weeks
Few details are known about the Helldivers movie, though it’s set to latch onto the universe created by the popular video franchise, backing onto the popularity of the most recent release, Helldivers 2.
Initially released on PlayStation 5 and PC, Helldivers 2 made the rare jump away from console exclusivity for Sony to land on Xbox Series X|S last year, opening the doors to a larger playerbase. Now, the movie should bring more fans into the scene.
As of now, Jason Momoa is the only cast member to have been revealed and is expected to star as the main protagonist in the story.
Momoa has become a regular in video game adaptations, having featured in The Minecraft Movie as Garrett, a role he will continue in the sequel, while he also plays the role of Blanka in the Street Fighter movie set to be released later this year.
The Helldivers movie is slated for release on November 10, 2027, and comes on the back of Sony’s growing push to adapt video games into movies and TV series.
Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda movie, which has wrapped filming, will be distributed by Sony Pictures, while development of a Bloodborne film has been announced.
Sony has also seen The Last of Us become a successful TV series, with God of War set to follow on Amazon, while projects centred around Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, and Horizon Zero Dawn are also in the works, according to IMDB.

So Sony cares about games for adaption more than games themselves. They should just focus on making good 2-D animated Spider-Man cartoons.
