ARC Raiders is a very successful extraction shooter from Embark Studios. Currently, it is the 9th most popular game on Steam with over 137,000 players. The game has won several awards and continues to pump out content to keep players engaged.
Recently, Caio Braga, the game’s production director, shared insights from an early playtest of ARC Raiders. During this playtest, the studio asked participants about the other games they play and assessed their enjoyment of other PvP titles.
It was noted that those who enjoyed games like Delta Force, Escape from Tarkov, and PUBG were more enthusiastic about ARC Raiders’ PvP from the beginning. However, Braga is more interested in players of The Last of Us, who rated the ARC build they played as the highest among a group of “co-op/adventure players,” which also included titles like Helldivers 2 and Elden Ring.
ARC Raiders Director Explains Why the Game Is Branded an ‘Extraction Adventure’
During an interview with GamesRadar+, Caio Braga explained why he was taken aback that players of The Last of Us were fans of the game. He says they wanted a specific type of PvP but didn’t want that gameplay all the time.
He also said that’s why they chose to brand the game as an adventure game, to draw in the more story-driven players.
“Yeah, that’s even why we use ‘extraction adventure game,'” Braga says, “and there is shooting, but we want to provide fun for all the audience.”
