The developers of Slay the Spire hate microtransactions, and they want players to have the same experience.
Game developer and co-founder of Mega Crit, Casey Yano, is riding the wave of the mega success of Slay the Spire 2’s Early Access release. Recently, he was interviewed by Destructoid. In that interview, he makes it very clear that Mega Crit is not a fan of microtransactions, even though they have an audience that would very much support whatever they put out.
“We really want players to experience all of the same content as discussion of game content and balance is sort of our lifeblood,” he said.
Slay the Spire Devs Supporting Modding Community
Mega Crit may hate microtransactions, but they do support the modding community. In the interview, Yano notes that both Slay the Spire titles are easy to mod. However, the sequel is still in such an early stage that it’s not yet clear how much will be updated during this early testing phase.
“A lot of our focus this time around is reducing friction, so players have more resources and easier entry points to work with mods,” he said. “At the moment, I’m not entirely sure what we’ll update often throughout early access. Hopefully pure content. The good stuff.”
