Resident Evil Requiem Becomes Fastest-Selling Game In Franchise History

The good people still love Resident Evil as much as ever in 2026. It turns out that Capcom’s arduous marketing campaign for the game has been a success, as Resident Evil Requiem has already sold over 5 million copies in a ridiculously short space of time.

Resident Evil Requiem has topped Metacritic’s greatest games ever list in terms of user score—and it’s hard to explain how unbelievable this is when you consider this includes ALL games.

The game has gone one better and become the series’ fastest-selling title, too, beating out all the other legendary games in the franchise.

An official Capcom press release from March 4 shows that Resident Evil Requiem “Surpasses 5 Million Units!”

Capcom also added in the press release that the franchise (as of December 31, 2025) has sold over 183 million units, meaning Requiem takes its total closer to 190 million, and it’s likely to surpass 200 million by the end of 2026.

Additionally, renowned leaker Dusk Golem claims that this “makes it the top-selling first week of a RE game ever, overtaking the previous record holder.”

The previous record holder was Resident Evil 6, which clocked in at 4.5 million copies sold in one week, whereas Requiem has cleared 5 million in only five days!

With rumors about Resident Evil Requiem DLC and expansions abound, this might only be the beginning for the terrifying latest installment.

A round of applause is necessary for Resident Evil Requiem.
