Hytale has finally arrived in Early Access, and there’s a lot to unpack. If you’re just getting started in the open-world sandbox game, you’ll need a specific resource to take your gear to the next level—Thorium.
Thorium can be found as an Ore, but if you want to make use of it, you’ll need to smelt it down into Ingots. However, unlike Copper and Iron, Thorium isn’t so easy to find, and it can be an early-game roadblock.
Here’s where you can find Thorium Ore in Hytale, as well as how you can smelt it down into Ingots.
Best Location To Find Thorium Ore In Hytale
Thorium Ore can be found in the Howling Sands biome, which is the arid, desert region of Hytale. You’ll want to look out for stone with green rocks jutting out of them—that’s Thorium Ore.
Although every map of Hytale is procedurally generated, finding the Howling Sands is still fairly easy. All you need to do is zoom out of your map and look for regions covered in sand.
However, before you set off, it’s important to note that the Howling Sands is considered to be the second zone of Hytale, so you’ll want to make sure you’re properly geared up for the journey. Higher-level enemies prowl these regions, so you don’t want to be caught out with low-tier gear.
Once you’re there, you’ll want to head underground, as that’s your best chance of finding Thorium. That being said, the Ore can spawn on the sides of mountains in the region, so if you’re having a hard time finding a cave, try looking up instead.
How To Craft Thorium Ingots In Hytale
To craft Thorium Ingots, all you have to do is smelt your Thorium Ore in a Furnace. Each Ore provides one Ingot.
If you’re heading out to gather Thorium, then the likelihood is that you’ve got a Furnace set up and ready to go. Well, you’ll need to put it to good use, as the only way your Thorium Ore will be useful is if you smelt it down into Ingots.
It might take a little longer to smelt than the likes of Copper or Iron, but once it does, you’re ready to go. Now, it’s about putting your new Thorium Ingots to work by crafting some new gear—once your workstations are levelled up, that is.
What Are Thorium Ingots Used For In Hytale?
Thorium Ingots have a variety of uses, but they’re primarily used to make Thorium weapons, tools and armor. It’s also required to level up some workstations.
You’ll most likely use your Thorium Ingots to craft a new set of Thorium gear, as it’s the next step after Iron. However, before you can do that, you’ll need to level up your respective workstations to tier two. Until then, all Thorium gear will remain locked and unavailable to craft.
Aside from gear, though, it does have a few other uses. Most notably, it’s a required Ingot to level up the Furnace to tier two, which will smelt Ore more efficiently.
