The developers of Helldivers 2 have confirmed that there are ‘no plans’ for Helldivers 3 at this time.
Arrowhead Game Studios recently posted a massive update for Helldivers 2, discussing their long-term plans for addressing performance issues and releasing a patch in mid-October. Amidst all of this, players on Discord have been asking the developers about what they have in store for Helldivers 3; however, it appears there are no plans for it at the moment.
We Might Never Get a Helldivers 3
As spotted by Gamerant, the CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Shams Jorjani, spoke about the lack of a sequel for Helldivers 2. During a conversation on Discord, Jorjani stated that they have “no plans” for Helldivers 3, and the developers are looking towards continuing Helldivers 2 as long as they can. Arrowhead is aiming to treat HL2 like Runescape, making the game run as long as possible. Runescape is now 24 years old.
The CEO added that he and the directors want Helldivers 2 to become a “forever game”; hence, they aren’t looking towards any sequel plans. If they are able to “get a grip on performance and dev practices,” they will continue to expand the game for a very long time. Moreover, PlayStation is being super supportive as well, so it seems that the dev team’s entire focus will stay on the current game rather than thinking about the next one.
In other news, a new leak has revealed ‘possibly scrapped’ ship customization features. Additionally, the developers of Helldivers 2 have addressed game size reduction. What are your thoughts on Helldivers 2 not receiving a sequel? Let us know through the official Insider Gaming forums discussion.
