The sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, named The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, has been revealed, thanks to today’s Nintendo Direct.
Universal Pictures hit it big with The Super Mario Bros. Movie back in 2022. Not only was the film a hit with critics, but it also became the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time. Of course, that meant more would be on the way, with a sequel greenlit not long after. Now, after a few leaks, we now know more about it, including the inspired title choice.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie Sequel Now Called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Announced during today’s Nintendo Direct, The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel is now known as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Furthermore, in the video shown above, you can see a short teaser for the movie with reconfirmation that the movie will release in April 2026. The title was leaked yesterday via a domain registration, as well as, funnily enough, an Old Spice bottle.
If you’re a longtime Mario fan, Galaxy is a familiar title. The Super Mario Galaxy games, released on the Nintendo Wii, are some of the most memorable of the series. Taking place in space, Mario travels to various planets and stops Bowser from taking over the galaxy. With stunning 3D visuals and engaging gameplay, the two titles received multiple accolades, including Game of the Year. Fortunately, given how well Illumination and Universal did with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie may just shoot for the stars.
