Hollow Knight: Silksong hit a total of five million players in just the first three days of its release, according to new data.
The Team Cherry hit has been one of the most highly anticipated releases, with over a six-year wait between the game’s initial announcement and its release.
While it was always expected that Hollow Knight: Silksong would be highly successful, having been one of the most wishlisted games on Steam, the data shows is still staggering.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Sells 3m Copies on Steam

As detailed by Alinea Insight, Silksong hit the five million player mark in just the first three days after its release on September 4, including one million players through Game Pass on console.
On Steam alone, Silksong has sold over three million copies, generating over $50m in estimated revenue, and Alinea states part of the hype was due to how sporadic marketing and teasers for the game were.
In comparison, Silksing sold double the amount that Schedule 1, Peak, and R.E.P.O, the other top Indie hits of 2025, managed combined (858k for Schedule 1, 332k for Peak, 253k for R.E.P.O.
The top markets on Steam for Silksong were the US and China, which mirrors most PC hits, with Russia, Japan, and Brazil rounding out the top five. On PlayStation, 30% of the players were from North America, with 14% from East Asia and 14% from Western Europe.
Silksong thrived on mystery, announcing a release just two weeks ahead of launch, which seems to have paid off. Even before the announcement, any live event like Summer Games Fest, The Game Awards, or publisher directs was flooded with questions and speculation about a potential Silksong reveal.
