July 2025 US Hardware Sales Rise 21% Thanks To Nintendo Switch 2

Video game hardware sales for July 2025 have been announced, and for the second month in a row, the Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling video game console.

According to the latest data from Circana, the Switch 2 was the top system in both units sold and dollars. It’s strong second month saw it surpass 2 million units sold in the United States (US) as of August 2. It’s sales success currently puts it 75% of the sales pace of the original Nintendo Switch over the same time.

Thanks to the continued strong sales of Nintendo’s latest console continuing, video game hardware sales rose 21% year-over-year to $384 million for July. The success of the console also brought overall year-to-date numbers up 18% to $2.467 billion compared to the $2.09 billion at this point in 2024.

As far as the other video game hardware is concerned. The PlayStation 5, while being second in both units and dollars, saw July sales fall 47% year-over-year while the Xbox Series fell 69% year-over-year.

Regarding accessories, overall spending fell 8% year-over-year to $187 million. Looking at the year-to-date numbers, accessory sales are down 6% compared to 2024. As far as the top accessory goes, however, the Nintendo Switch 2 pro controller was at the top of the list and also became the best-selling accessory for 2025.
