Ubisoft Threatened to Sue Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Actor Over Remake Slip Up

Edward Kenway voice actor, Matt Ryan, has revealed a secret video of him, hinting at the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake, nearly got the actor into big trouble with Ubisoft threatening to sue him for insinuating the AC4 Remake is happening.

Everyone is pretty much begging for an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake. The fourth mainline game was a phenomenal pirate game that geniusly blended its long-time stealth action with sea shanties and skull and bones (no, not that one) shenanigans.

Voice actor Matt Ryan—the talented star behind the game’s main character, Edward Kenway—was recorded in secret not too long ago, hinting at a Black Flag Remake. The actor has been recorded again, only this time to explain how the last video landed him in hot water with Ubisoft.

In a video from the TikTok account kylo_hd659 (through @TheHiddenOneAC), we see Ryan signing merchandise for fans of the star.

The voice actor is asked: “So, is there a remaster [of Black Flag] coming out or what?” The question prompts an immediate response: “I don’t know, mate.” Ryan sheepishly tries to shrug off the initial suggestions and questioning with innocence and not knowing about the rumored project.

Ryan eventually elaborated further on the secrecy: “Well, the thing is that when it happened, someone was doing this [secretly filming Ryan] and I was being very free and open. But I didn’t know that they actually were recording me on their phone. Then the company [presumably Ubisoft] threatened to sue me.

He added: “Yeah, so I say nothing,” to his statement.

I’m sure Ryan would love to disclose the full nature of the Assassin’s Black Flag Remake project. We’ll have to wait until Ubisoft does this for him, and the voice actor is likely keen to avoid any further confusion or trouble regarding this. This also highlights how destructive candidly filming someone can be to their career and reputation.

Should Ryan have hinted at the game in the first place? Or is Ubisoft being too harsh in this situation? Share your thoughts through the Insider Gaming forum for more discussions.
