‘He Just Knows Everything’: Shotzzy on Mercules Fitting into OpTic Texas

Earlier this year, OpTic Texas picked up a prodigy player in Mason ‘Mercules’ Ramsey, a white-hot talent who has found himself staring down the Winner’s Final at COD Champs just a couple of months after leaving Challengers. His spot on the OpTic Texas roster came after a brief stint with Toronto Ultra, but despite his short tenure with OpTic, he’s already an integral part of the team.

That’s what I learned when I caught up with Shotzzy and Mercules after their win over Toronto Ultra in the upper bracket at COD Champs here in Kitchener, Canada.

‘It’s Just Super Simple’

Mercules has become a fan favourite of OpTic Texas followers since debuting with the squad a couple of months ago. He has proven to be a stellar competitor and an increasingly confident performer with a likeable streak. He wears the OpTic Texas jersey well, and at Champs, he has proven to be a key part of the team’s upper bracket success thus far.

Shotzzy beamed when talking about Mercules in the press room at COD Champs:

Finding Mase, the young gun, he’s insane. I feel he fits in the roster really well, and I mean, it’s just super simple. I haven’t even needed to teach him much, he kind of just knows everything, it’s definitely been easy.

I turned to Mercules and asked him a question based on a recent clip OpTic posted to socials. It was a ‘welcome video’ of sorts from OpTic to Merc, with the OGs and current players, and creators giving Ramsey one line of advice. I asked which piece of advice he’d taken on board the most since joining the team:

Well, I think FormaL said ‘just chall’, so probably that.

For reference, the list of advice included elements like ‘stay on Scump’s good side’, ‘show up on time for content day’, and ‘switch your stream on’.

Later today, OpTic Texas takes on Boston Breach in the winner’s final of the Call of Duty League Championship in Kitchener. Who do you think will win? Let me know on the Insider Gaming forum.
