Limited Run Games developed GEX Trilogy for multiple platforms, but an issue on Nintendo Switch 2 disrupted those plans.
GEX is a cult classic that began as a side-scrolling platformer, and both sequels evolved into 3D collect-a-thon games. All three games in the series launched to positive reception and are fondly remembered.
Despite its continued popularity, a new installment hasn’t been released in over 25 years. Limited Run Games rectified that by remastering the first three games in one collection. Let’s take a look at which modern platforms the beloved series is available on.
Can You Play GEX Trilogy on Nintendo Switch 2?
GEX Trilogy initially launched on Nintendo Switch 2, but Limited Run Games asked Nintendo to remove the game from the Switch 2 eShop because of backwards compatibility issues.
On the Nintendo eShop, there is a disclaimer that confirms that GEX Trilogy is unsupported on Switch 2 because of “game progression” problems.
That being said, the game runs on Switch 1 without any issues.
When is GEX Trilogy Coming to Switch 2?
Limited Run Games submitted a patch on June 15 to correct the issue, but approval was delayed due to the United States’ Juneteenth holiday. The development team expects the patch to go live early in the week of June 23.
Once the update goes live, you should be able to download and play the game without any issues.
Can You Play GEX Trilogy on Xbox Series X|S
GEX Trilogy is available on Xbox Series X|S.
Limited Run Games made the most of next-gen hardware with enhanced resolutions, and you can rewind or save anywhere. Additionally, the development team introduced new analog controls with a completely rebuilt 360-degree capability.
However, you can also use the original controls if you’d like, and none of the stages were left unchanged.
Can You Play GEX Trilogy on PlayStation 5?
Yes, GEX Trilogy is also available on PlayStation 5.
Sony did not specify how the games have been optimized for PlayStation 5, but you should expect improved visuals and controls.
Can You Play GEX Trilogy on PC?
PC users can also play GEX Trilogy.
On the official Steam listing, the devs recommended that you either use an Xbox or PlayStation controller for the best possible experience.
In other Switch 2 news, it has already outsold the PS5 Digital Edition and Xbox Series X|S consoles in Japan in terms of lifetime sales. Third-party titles, however, are reportedly not selling well. Additionally, the June 18 update made one significant change.
