Sony’s Bend Studio reportedly laid off around 30% of its staff today, following the cancellation of its live service game.
In January, PlayStation cancelled two of its projects, one of which was a live-service God of War game by Bluepoint, while the other appeared to be a live-service military shooter led by Bend Studio.
Two weeks after the cancellation, Bend Studio let go of several contractors. Then, in April, Bend Studio released Days Gone Remastered for PlayStation 5 and PC. The remaster introduced graphic and performance enhancements, as well as added a few new game modes. Despite the new project, the studio is once again suffering layoffs.
Bend Studio Suffers More Layoffs

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported, “Sony’s Bend studio, which canceled a live-service game earlier this year, is laying off 30% of staff today (around 40 people), Bloomberg News has learned. The studio has been spinning up a new project following the cancellation.”
It remains to be seen if that new Bend Studio project will continue, following this latest round of layoffs. One fan asked in the comment section if the studio is at risk of being closed.
Schreier responded, “Unlikely they’d have laid off 30% of the staff if they were going to close the studio.”
We will provide an update if Bend Studio shares any more information on its upcoming project.
