PlayStation’s Recent State of Play Broke Viewer Records

It might not sound right at first blush, given how underwhelming the showcase was, but the recent State of Play event that aired on June 4 was the most popular State of Play ever. It pulled in a peak viewer count of just over 2.2 million users, according to Streams Charts. That stellar figure made the show the third most popular gaming showcase in recent months, behind Nintendo’s Switch 2 coverage.

It’s likely the number was swollen based on expectations that PlayStation would be revealing something a little meatier than it did. After all, with Summer Game Fest taking place today and Xbox hosting a showcase on Sunday, it stood to reason that PlayStation wanted to set the bar.

It kind of didn’t, but the viewers didn’t seem to mind.

Big Numbers

Streams Charts revealed in a report that the State of Play showcase that was held on Thursday pulled in more than 2.2 million peak viewers, with an average of 1.9 million. This is arguably thanks to the 1,000 creators supporting the event by co-streaming, to some extent.

While the official PlayStation channel racked up a peak count of 741,000 viewers, streamers such as Asmongold also managed to capture the attention of more than 70,000 peak viewers.

The recent State of Play showcase comes in third place in 2025 behind March’s Nintendo Direct and the Switch 2 showcase. It’ll be interesting to see if Summer Game Fest, one of the most highly anticipated gaming events, tops the State of Play event.

Streams Charts advised that the highlight of State of Play was the new trailer for Pragmata, which secured a 2026 release window. You can learn all about Pragmata through our latest coverage.
