If you thought Borderlands 3 went above and beyond, you’ve seen nothing. The Borderlands 4 budget is apparently more than twice that of Borderlands 3, and Randy Pitchford also confirmed he doesn’t know how much the game will cost.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford recently attracted headlines for saying “real fans” would pay $80 for Borderlands 4. Time will tell how true those words ring, but we do know that Pitchford has also commented on the size of the sequel’s budget and provided an update on the game’s price.
Borderlands 4 Price is TBA, But The Budget is Big

Randy Pitchford posted a new video to his X page on May 21 concerning the game’s price: “I’ll tell you the truth, I don’t know, and that is the truth. There are some folks that don’t want to see prices go up, even the ones deciding what the prices are, there’s other folks accepting the reality that game budgets are increasing and there’s tariffs for the retail packaging. It’s getting gnarly out there.”
The topic of the game’s budget also came up. “Borderlands 4 has more than twice the development budget than Borderlands 3, more than twice,” he added, and confirmed that pre-orders are opening soon, and that’s when the “prices will be set.”
Jason Schreier reported in 2020 that by the time Borderlands 3 wrapped up, its overall budget was around $140 million. If Pitchford’s words hold true, Borderlands 4‘s budget is closer to $300 million.
