EA and DICE are full steam ahead with Battlefield Labs testing. The shooter’s developers and publisher want this to be the most impactful Battlefield in years. We keep seeing leaked footage from time to time, and a new Battlefield Labs leak shows the return of the combat roll.
There’s a feeling that recent Battlefield titles have moved away from what made the series so beloved. Emphasis on battle royale, cosmetics, and not delivering optimized/working experiences has taken away from the Battlefield brand. But the ongoing Battlefield Labs testing period is to ensure the next BF game gets back to basics.
It’s planned for release before April 2026, but will the returning landing roll mechanic make the cut in its current state?
Battlefield Labs Landing Roll Mechanic is Moving, Literally

A video from X account BattlehubYT shows in-game footage from Battlefield Labs. It sees the return of Battlefield 5’s landing roll mechanic—designed to prevent fall damage and even evade enemy gunfire.
The footage is from an anonymous playtester. In the video, we see them fire off a Sniper Rifle shot before rapidly rolling down a ledge. They then mantle a rock and perform the maneuver, only a bit slower this time around.

Replies to the Battlefield Labs leak aren’t too positive, with the clip being labeled: “Sad,” “Stupid,” and “A bit wonky.” It does look a bit inconsistent and like it could cause motion sickness.
The landing roll was generally well-received in Battlefield 5. You can see in this video from YouTuber CrafterOfSwords showing a more consistent roll in BF5.
We’ll have to see if the animation and feel are changed between now and launch. Are you hoping it is? Or do you wish to turn off any landing roll mechanic altogether? Let us know through the Insider Gaming forum.
