We can already envisage the chaos and calamity brewing in DOOM: The Dark Ages. It looks like an extension of the beasts and brutality the DOOM reboot trilogy has delivered in droves. The review embargo is a key time as we get to learn what everyone thinks of the new shooter.
Is there a universe where DOOM: The Dark Ages doesn’t deliver? If there is, I don’t want to be part of it, so send me to another realm to play tag with an aggressive Hell Knight. The Dark Ages looks phenomenal, from its level design to its latest toolbox of warped weapons.
But as we all know, reviews count. This is why we’re all looking forward to the DOOM: The Dark Ages review embargo to learn the final verdict.
DOOM: The Dark Ages Review Embargo Date, Explained

The review embargo for DOOM: The Dark Ages is expected to lift on Friday, May 9 at 7 AM PDT, 9 AM CEST, 10 AM EDT, and 3 PM BST.
Confirmation comes from journalist Jordan Middler on BlueSky. They posted on May 2 to say: “I’m reviewing Doom: The Dark Ages. Check out my review on VGC on Friday, May 9, at 7 am/10 am PDT/EDT, 3 pm/4 pm BST/CEST.”
Once the embargo lifts, all outlets can post their review scores.
What Scores Can we Expect From DOOM: The Dark Ages?
From what we’ve seen and heard from DOOM: The Dark Ages so far, don’t be surprised to see the game in the 85-90 region on Metacritic and OpenCritic.
As an example, DOOM: Eternal achieved a score of 88 out of 100 on Metacritic. With state-of-the-art visuals, bigger levels and areas, more enemies on screen, and the biggest and baddest guns ever seen, it’s hard to see how DOOM: The Dark Age’s review scores regress.
I would be confident in saying DOOM: The Dark Ages will score a flurry of 10s and be close to a 90/100 rating, if not better.
It’s almost rhetorical, but are you looking forward to DOOM: The Dark Ages? Which aspect of it has you the most excited? Let us know why it’s the new Skullcrusher gun in the comments, and if for some reason it’s not, the Insider Gaming forum is the perfect place to take the topic further.
