An Insider who’s been given early builds to Deadlock has claimed that the game will likely have its open beta in July.
The news was posted to the /r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, where screenshots of the alleged leaker said that the open beta of the game will come in July.
Alongside the claims where images and videos of an ‘insider build’ of Deadlock, which was a build given to employee’s at Valve prior to the game going into its closed Alpha.
You can watch some of the footage below:
Deadlock first launched into a closed alpha period in summer 2024 and accumulated over 170,000 concurrent players. To know one’s surprise, the player count has since dwindled, but still maintains 10-20,000 peak concurrent players on any one given day.
The game even was the top game on Steam in August 2024, despite it being a closed alpha.
What is Deadlock?
For those who are unaware, Deadlock is a new 6v6 team-based hero shooter by Valve. It’s very similar to the likes of DOTA 2 and Smite, and is being hailed as Valve’s next “major” title. It’s been in early development playtesting since at least April 2024 – But prior to that is was vigorously playtested by Valve employees and family.
The game was originally called “Neon Prime” with a sci-fi aesthetic, but the game morphed into Deadlock sometime in 2023.
At the time of writing, Valve is yet to officially commit to a release date for Deadlock, but according to some rumours, it could release towards the end of this year or in 2026.
