7 Upcoming Game Sequels for 2024

It is safe to say that 2023 has been a successful period for game sequels. With games such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Diablo 4, and Baldur’s Gate 3 continuing previous successes. Not to mention the titles that are yet to launch with the likes of Spiderman 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 both on the agenda before the year’s end.

But, looking forward to 2024, what upcoming game sequels do we have in store for us in the new year? Let’s find out!

7. Tekken 8

Bandai Namco’s 8 addition to the popular fighting series looks to keep the familiar playstyle that has been a staple of the Tekken series for decades. While revolutionizing the format with the Heat system which will boost players’ offensive power for 10 seconds, allowing players to balance the scales or deliver that final winning blow.

The upcoming title recently held a closed test beta which showed the 8th installment use of Unreal Engine 5, with stunning visuals and enhancing detailing in both the characters and the environment alike.

Tekken introduces new characters to the series such as Azucena, a Peruvian coffee lover with MMA champion accolades.

Expected Release Date: 26th January 2024 for PC, PS5 & Xbox Series X|S

6. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

The second of the remake trilogy for the Final Fantasy VII series looks to continue the reimagination of the original with further development. Not only gameplay but also the narrative structure of the game as well as character development. The ‘synergized’ mechanic first introduced in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade returns which allows players to synchronize their attacks.

This title’s story will continue to follow the original template set out by the original series on PlayStation 1. Whilst being reimagined to improve the initial foundations the series set out back in 1997.

Expected Release Date: 29th February 2024 for PlayStation 5

5. Ark 2

The second installment in the Ark series makes its awaited launch in 2024. With aims to improve on the rocky reception that the original title received in 2017.

Vin Diesel has been involved in the production of the game and will feature as Santiago who ‘returns’ in Ark 2.

After a delay from the original 2023 release, Ark 2 hopes to land at the end of 2024. The sequel had hoped for a smoother development period. However as we have seen with other titles, more time usually means a better day-one product

Expected Release: Q4 2024-Early 2025 for Xbox and PC

4. South Park: Snow Day!

South Park goes back to its 3D roots in this installment of the game spin-off to the Comedy Central series. The game ditches the 2D formula that has served the former releases well. Instead, it has adopted an action roleplaying style of gameplay resembling Happy Wars and games of that caliber. It is yet to be seen whether ARP-style gameplay will be wholly used or rather a hybrid of the battle systems that players experienced in TFBW and TSOT.

However, it is worth keeping an eye on. Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of South Park) will be involved in the game’s writing process.

Expected Release Date: 2024 (Unspecified) for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch

3. The Wolf Among Us 2

After a 10-year hiatus, TWAU is back for its second installment in 2024. Fans of the game had been left in waiting with Telltale focusing on Minecraft: Story Mode and Game of Thrones. After its cancellation in 2019 due to “insurmountable challenges”, the hope for the planned sequel looked unlikely but fortunes have since turned.

The sequel will continue the story from the original release but will remain as a prequel to the comic series of the same name.

With the sequel planned to launch in 2023, a further delay to the following year in order to utilise Unreal Engine 5 should see Telltale continue to nail story-based gaming.

Expected Release Date: 2024 (Unspecified) for PC, PS4/5 and Xbox One Series S|X

2. Little Nightmares III

Little Nightmares goes co-op in the third release of the popular puzzle/horror title, with Low and Alone as the child protagonists.

The two main characters replace Mono and Six from previous installments and will have different respective gameplay mechanics. Low wielding a bow and arrow, and Alone using her wrench.

Playing Solo? Not to fear, players will be joined by an AI ally throughout the game much like LN II so all can enjoy.

Expected Release Date: 2024 (Unspecified) for PC, PS4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S and Nintendo Switch

1. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

Microsoft looks to build on the recent popularity of the flying simulator series in 2024 with a range of new features.

New missions ranging from aerial firefighting, search and rescue operations, skydiving, and even crop dusting will be available to pilots.

New environmental features include snow, tornadoes, live marine, flight tracking, the four seasons, and better ground traffic reporting.
