7 Things we Want to See in Battlefield 6

Excitement for Battlefield 6 has reached fever pitch following a frantic week of reveals and leaks, which has got us thinking about the biggest things we want to see EA add.

Releasing October 10, the initial reveal trailer showed intense details from the campaign, and a full multiplayer reveal is set for next week. With an Open Beta set to follow soon after, it’s a great time to be a fan of the Battlefield franchise.

Let’s be honest though, Battlefield 2042 does not live positively in the memory, and EA needs to mix things up for Battlefield 6 to be a success. With the things we’ve put on this wishlist though, it would certainly be on course to be one of the biggest hits of the year.

Things we Want to See in Battlefield 6

No Stupid Skins

There are some games where collabs and crossover skins belong, like Fortnite, and others where they don’t, like Call of Duty. Activision’s move to include them has resulted in an arcade feel at times, and is something Battlefield should steer well clear of.

There will undoubtedly be some skins available to purchase and unlock, as is the way with modern gaming, but Battlefield 6 should keep it realistic. If it is going to include crossovers, make them work and not gimmicky. Give us themes that fit in with the environment.

A Gripping Campaign

Modern gaming is largely driven by multiplayer these days, though that doesn’t mean campaigns should be an afterthought. This has been somewhat forgotten in the FPS genre recently, with the campaigns not making the impact they once did, and Battlefield 6 needs to be different.

It feels like a lifetime ago since the last truly amazing FPS campaign was, with even franchises like Halo and Gears of War spinning off into relative obscurity. Please, EA, give us something like Bad Company or the original Modern Warfare 2 that we can remember for a lifetime.

Class-Fixed Weapons

Yes, this again. One of the biggest strengths of the Battlefield franchise was weapon types being locked to specific classes, which controversially went out the window in Battlefield 2042. It seems like EA is sticking with their guns with the switch, though there’s still time for a U-turn.

There has already been confirmation that the Open Beta will include playlists with class-specific weapons, but this isn’t far enough. We need Battlefield 6 to go back to the way things were.

Bigger Levolution Events

Quite possibly the greatest feature ever brought to FPS games, Levolution Events need to be bigger and better than ever before in Battlefield 6. Nothing beats the excitement of seeing the events triggered, as you laugh at those impacted or frantically try to find safety yourself.

To step things up even more, it would be great to see a variety of Levolution Events on every map, ranging from the huge, destructive, Hollywood-like sequences to smaller ones that result in a tactical switch. I’m thinking collapsing a tunnel so it can no longer be used, destroying a skyscraper, and sinking a huge aircraft carrier.

Carry on the ‘Labs’ Model

Excitement for Battlefield 6 has risen largely due to the positive impact that Battlefield Labs has had, giving players a first-hand opportunity to drive the game forward. While this has been used in development for the game, a similar approach needs to remain moving forward.

Listen to player feedback, make changes as a result. Don’t treat this as a one-and-done, swiftly moving onto the next DLC or update, let the game evolve as a service. Great things can happen when EA listens to players, as we saw with Battlefront 2 after the initial launch fiasco, so please take note.

Ranked Mode

Battlefield 2042 did not have a dedicated Ranked Mode, which was a huge blow, and, really, if the franchise wants to be able to compete with Call of Duty, this needs to change in Battlefield 6. While it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, it can make a huge difference to players.

One of Call of Duty’s biggest strengths is the grind, with an endless amount of camos to unlock, ranks to rise through, and prestige levels to reach. Ranked modes are another part of this, and it would open up a lot of doors for Battlefield if a similar approach was taken.

Seasonal Map Changes

Environmental changes with seasons have become part and parcel of modern gaming, with the likes of Forza Horizon and Assassin’s Creed utilizing them to great effect, but FPS is a genre where this hasn’t really been touched upon yet. Battlefield 6, however, provides the perfect opportunity.

Seasonal changes and events could directly tie into the Levolution Events, like having avalanches in the winter, sandstorms in the summer, and hurricanes in Spring. These could have a huge impact on the environment, blocking off established areas, and opening new ones.

Even smaller things like being able to shoot trees so snow falls onto a player and blocks their vision would be fun. Of all the things on this wishlist, this would be the biggest and best of them all.
