The style of “last player standing wins” type of gameplay quickly swept over the gaming world and has not gone anywhere. 5. Erangel (PUBG)
Love it or hate it, you cannot deny that PUBG’s Erangel map was iconic for the time. Battle Royales had just begun to surface, and everyone wanted to try the new popular game mode. While the game had quite a few flaws, and holds up nowhere as well as Battle Royales made today, it still left a huge mark on the Battle Royale community.
4. Fortnite Chapter 2
Fortnite’s Chapter 2 map, which lasted approximately eight seasons, is easily one of the greatest Battle Royale maps ever. Why? Perhaps the fact that it came out just before COVID-19, so everyone inside playing it. Or maybe it was due to the fact that it had cured all the imperfections brought along with the Chapter 1 map. Regardless, Fortnite’s Chapter 2 map was historical. There is no debating that.
3. King’s Canyon (Apex Legends)
Another map that marked the beginning of one of the best Battle Royales ever made, was King’s Canyon in Apex Legends. This was the first map for the game. What made it unique was it being much smaller than traditional Battle Royale maps, but still managed to pack in quite a few locations. Call it historical or call it whatever you want, but Warzone’s first map, Verdansk, is simply one of the greatest Battle Royale maps of all time. This place was huge and was a defining aspect of the Call of Duty franchise. Verdansk really put Warzone into motion. The game also came out with the Gulag during this time, something no other game had featured before. Verdansk is a no-brainer when it comes to the greatest Battle Royale maps ever made.
