Electronic Arts has announced major changes coming to Battlefield 6’s movement mechanics following feedback and telemetry analysis from the recent open beta. In a post, the team revealed that bunny hopping, slide-shooting, and jump shots will all be addressed (and impacted) by the incoming changes that are being implemented to ‘create a more balanced and traditional Battlefield experience.
One of the key takeaways from the recent Battlefield 6 beta was that the game’s movement mechanics were far too easy to abuse and exploit, resulting in some players flying around with reckless abandon, getting on the nerves of hardcore fans worldwide.
Battlefield 6 Beta Movement Has Been Adjusted
In a post shared on social media by CharlieINTEL, it was stated by Electronic Arts:
Movement mechanics have been adjusted to create a more balanced and traditional Battlefield experience. Momentum, especially horizontal speed, carried from a slide into a jump has been reduced. There is now a greater penalty for consecutive jumps, which lowers jump height when jumps are spammed. Firing while jumping or sliding will result in increased inaccuracy.
These changes are designed to make jumping and sliding more situational, so they are no longer ideal options for engaging in gunfights, and will contribute to a gameplay pace that rewards skillful movement without becoming too fast or unpredictable.
Parachute physics have also been re-tuned, with reduced initial acceleration when opening the parachute for more controlled aerial movement.
The faster-paced movement mechanics rankled amongst the Battlefield fans getting dunked on by Call of Duty players more used to the ‘arcade’ style of traversal featured in the Battlefield 6 beta. This, combined with a very high TTD and bizarrely low TTK, meant that some elements of the Battlefield 6 open beta were less desirable than you might have liked.
Do you think Electronic Arts has done well by tweaking these movement mechanics, or were you a fan of the faster pacing in Battlefield 6? Let me know your thoughts on the Insider Gaming forum.
