Tears of the Kingdom Collector’s Edition Gives Credence to Zelda Switch OLED Leak

The newly announced collector’s edition of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom seems to give support to previously leaked images of a Zelda-themed OLED Switch model.

The collector’s edition of the game—which launches alongside Tears of the Kingdom on May 12th—includes a special box containing an art book, pin set, steel poster, and more.

The collection of items is packaged inside a special box that features a repeating pattern of circles and waving lines reminiscent of sand within a zen garden. It’s the first time such a pattern has been featured in the official promotion of the game, but the same design can be seen on images of the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom OLED Switch which were leaked late last year.

As noted by users on Reddit, the connections appear to extend further. The iconography included on the pin set within the collector’s edition is also present on the reverse side of the special edition’s Joy-Cons and Switch dock.

With Nintendo making no effort to remove the images from the internet, many had assumed that the leaked images were fakes. Given the clear connection between the new promotion and the OLED design, however, it’s clear that the leaker at least had significant access to inside information relating to the game.

Some doubt still remains over the veracity of the Zelda Switch OLED model simply due to its lack of appearance during the recent Nintendo Direct. That said, Nintendo may well have a further Zelda-dedicated Nintendo Direct planned for the coming months, prior to the game’s release.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases for Nintendo Switch on May 12th.
