In recent sales data obtained from Circana, it has been revealed that six out of the top ten best-selling PlayStation games in Q2 2025 are Xbox games. What’s more, the top five games on PlayStation 5 represent a drastic split, with 80% of them being Xbox titles. Only MLB: The Show 25 has a spot in the top five on the leaderboard, and even that is dropping down the ranks.
As time goes on, more Xbox games are set to be released on PlayStation, such as the upcoming launch of Gears of War: Reloaded. Will Microsoft continue to dominate PlayStation’s sales charts?
Better as a Publisher
The recent discourse around Microsoft pulling out of console hardware and focusing on publishing games didn’t pan out, but it’s still kind of happening regardless. In a new spate of sales data published by Circana’s Mat Piscatella, it was revealed that games published by a Microsoft entity are soaring on PlayStation 5.
The best-selling game on PlayStation 5 in Q2 2025 was Forza Horizon 5, followed closely behind by The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. After the third-place spot was occupied by MLB: The Show 25, Xbox steps back into the frame in fourth place with Black Ops 6.
DOOM: The Dark Ages rounds out the top five, but it doesn’t end there, as both Indiana Jones and Minecraft have claimed a spot in the top ten games.
Given the recent suggestion that PlayStation games will wind up releasing on ‘other platforms’ at some point, we could be about to see some borderless, collaborative effort that brings more franchises across brands like never before. Could you imagine The Last of Us coming to Xbox, or Halo landing on PlayStation?
The potential is unparalleled.

Ponies mad tho. I swear there is no need for consoles outside Nintendo anymore the business model doesn’t work selling hardware at a loss. The Tencent lawsuit will destroy Sony not just games but everything.
What’s the point of Xbox? Just make games multiplat and with Jim Ryan gone and Doug Bowser running Nintendo put Game Pass on PlayStation and Nintendo.
