In a recent interview, the XBOX CEO spoke about doing more this summer to bring more flexible offerings to Game Pass.
XBOX Game Pass has experienced a turbulent year. It faced significant backlash from the community when prices were raised by 50%. However, the CEO later decided that the subscription was too expensive, leading to a price drop. This change has proven beneficial for the company, and it appears that they are looking to implement additional strategies to grow the subscription service.
XBOX CEO Talks About What’s Next for Game Pass
During an interview with Fortune Conversations (via Windows Central), XBOX CEO Asha Sharma discussed their plans for Game Pass in the summer of 2026. Sharma first discussed the impact of the 50% price hike, which caused a “decay in subscribers” and, as it became “too unaffordable”, the company had to redo the pricing for the players.
However, since the adjustment, Game Pass seems to be on an upward trajectory, where the company is seeing more subscribers and better retention. They have also understood that more work needs to be done to sustain this growth; hence, they will be doing “more this summer in order to create more flexible offerings to meet all the types of players that we have, and we’ll continue to iterate on that.”
There have been multiple rumors previously about new Game Pass tiers, including a ‘pick your plan‘ formula, the bundled services tier, and more. We have also recently seen the release of a new Starter Edition tier.
In other news, the XBOX Game Pass additions for June 2026 Wave 1 have been revealed, with 9 new additions coming this month.
