Phil Spencer Confirms ‘Plan’ For Four First-Party Xbox Games a Year

In a recent interview with IGN, Phil ‘P3’ Spencer – the CEO of Microsoft Gaming – went on record discussing everything from Starfield to rumours of all-new consoles. He also spoke briefly about the desire for Xbox to release four first-party games every year, backing up a statement made in June by the Head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty.

Put simply, it was once an aspiration, but now there’s a ‘plan’ to deliver four first-party games every year – something that Spencer stressed has already happened this year, and will ‘absolutely’ happen next year.

Phil Spencer Promises Games

Spencer detailed the line-up of first-party titles that have dropped this year on Xbox, for better or worse:

  • Hi-Fi Rush
  • Minecraft Legends
  • Redfall
  • Starfield
  • Forza
  • Age of Empires 4 (console)

In a tongue-in-cheek reference, Spencer admitted that ‘maybe people don’t want to give us credit for Redfall, I get it.’

In case you’re not in the know, Redfall was a complete failure and it has promptly disappeared into the abyss of history, never to be spoken of again.

Phil Spencer spoke candidly in the interview with IGN, which was refreshing. For the longest time, it has been noted that Xbox is about the games, but many can argue that the green team doesn’t perform as well as PlayStation when it comes to offering exclusive, first-party titles. It’s encouraging to see that there’s now ‘a plan’ to deliver these new games to Xbox users.

Are you excited about the prospect of more new first-party Xbox games?
