LCS and LEC teams face divergent fates after LoL Worlds draw
NA and EU had vastly differing fates in the Round 1 draw, with LYON and Team Liquid getting favorable draws against the LCP’s TSW and CFO.
In contrast, G2 and MKOI will face Dplus KIA and Bilibili Gaming, two of the hardest draws possible in their respective opposing pools.
The LoL Worlds 2026 Pools meant that only certain matchups could be drawn, with the Pool 4 teams facing the Pool 1 teams in the first round, and the Pool 2 and 3 teams facing each other.
That means Karmine Corp were likely to face tough opposition after making it through the Play-In Stage, which granted a Pool 4 placement, meeting LPL Split 3 2026 champions, Anyone’s Legend.
The LCK heavy-hitters faced diverging fates in Round 1, with HLE and Gen.G both facing tough opening contests against LPL opponents, while T1 will start their four-peat attempt with a match against CBLOL champions LOS.
But whether a Round 1 draw is difficult is not entirely indicative of a team’s fate in the competition, as rematches are not allowed in Swiss, meaning you can remove tough opposition from your potential opponents later in the draw.
Instead, teams like KC, MKOI, and G2 may feel better about facing tough opposition in a Best of 1, rather than a Best of 3 later in the Swiss Stage.
