The World Series of Warzone Isn’t Dead And Gone After All

In March, the World Series of Warzone, one of the biggest Call of Duty tournament circuits in the business, was reportedly shut down after a legal battle with Major League Baseball over the naming convention. Per reports, Activision ‘gave in’ and dropped the WSOW, instead opting to put all its eggs in a new basket.

Now, in a post on social media, Activision has revealed that the World Series of Warzone is alive and well, and it’s coming back very soon.

World Series of Warzone is Coming Back

In a recent post, Activision confirmed that not only is the WSOW alive, but it’s also coming back soon, after the current Warzone Resurgence Series wraps for this season.

The post said nothing about the legal issues that surfaced between Activision and Major League Baseball, which the gaming titan has never formally addressed.

When I sat down with Daniel Tsay, the General Manager of Call of Duty Esports at Activision, at DreamHack Birmingham, I pushed for more information, but received nothing.

The post on social did say:

COD:WRS is only one part of our esports landscape, and we’d like to share some news on the World Series of Warzone. To focus on delivering the best inaugural COD:WRS season possible, WSOW will begin after the COD:WRS season concludes, and kick off in early 2027. Full qualification details will be shared in the coming months.

Warzone fans were doubting the competitive future of their beloved battle royale after radio silence around the World Series of Warzone brand. It’s no big secret that battle royale games have backslid in recent months, but there’s still a fervour around Warzone, even if it’s one hampered by design decisions, map changes, mode shake-ups, and tournament settings.
