CD Projekt Red could easily have advertised The Witcher 3 Remastered as a full-price new game, even if you own the OG, but that’s far from the case, and you’re getting a great bargain if you want to play The Witcher 3 Remastered.
All these years later, The Witcher 3 is still getting new content and updates. You only do that for special games. With The Witcher 3’s upcoming DLC on the way and The Witcher 4 still progressing, it’s time to enjoy The Witcher 3 with its ‘Remastered’ update, and there’s plenty of good news for me to tell you about.
Is The Witcher 3 Remastered Next-Gen Update Free?
The Witcher 3’s Remastered update is 100% free to all owners of the game.
First things first, you MUST already own The Witcher 3. This isn’t tough, as the game’s relatively cheap now in 2026. But if you own The Witcher 3 on any next-gen device—PS5, XBOX Series X|S, PC, or Nintendo Switch 2—you will get the update for free.

You don’t have to pay an upgrade fee, and no Crowns need to change hands.
How to Get Witcher 3 Remastered Free Update
You can get the Remastered update by downloading it automatically as a new The Witcher 3 update on its launch day.
Here’s everything you need to know:
- Own a copy of The Witcher 3.
- Wait until the Remastered patch is released.
- Either let your system automatically update the game to auto-install the Remastered update, or manually install it yourself.
- Once it’s done, you can enjoy the newest version of The Witcher 3 and all of its upgrades!
There really isn’t much more you need to know, as explained by CD Projekt Red:
This new version of the game features an array of improvements, bringing upgrades to visuals, gameplay, and more. It will be available as a free upgrade to all owners of the game on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is also available for pre-purchase on Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2 (and if you own The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch, you will be able to claim Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 when it releases).’
