Starfield is here, and it’s clearly living up to the hype surrounding it if the early player numbers are to be believed. Of course, that doesn’t mean there aren’t questions from players about game features and design choices by Bethesda. One of those choices is Starfield not having ground vehicles.
That question was asked to Bethesda director and executive producer Todd Howard during an interview with Bloomberg on Wednesday.
“It’s something we considered. We’re going to do outer space; we’re going to do planets,” Howard said. “Once you do vehicles, it does change the gameplay.
“By focusing once you land in your ship that you’re on foot, it lets us really, for the players, make it an experience where we know how fast they’re seeing things. In one sense, you do have a vehicle – obviously, you have your spaceship.”

He continues: “Then on the surface, you do have a jetpack which you can upgrade…and obviously planets have different levels of gravity which make that unique.”
