What Happens if You Shoot The Water in Resident Evil 4 (RE4) Remake?

The Del Lago lake monster in the Resident Evil 4 (RE4) remake has a secret. You may have been told to shoot the lake water for a secret costume, but this is a joke among Resident Evil fans. You do not get a secret costume for shooting the lake water, unless you’re applying a very loose definition of the term “secret costume”. Having said that, something special does happen if you shoot the lake water, so if you’re curious about this easter egg, read on.

How to Get The Resident Evil 4 (RE4) Lake Monster Secret

During Chapter 3 of the Resident Evil 4 (RE4) remake, you’ll pass through the Quarry and then come to an area where there are some small buildings and a dock at which is moored a small motorboat. To continue the chapter, you need to go all the way to the far side of the Fish Farm to get the boat fuel before you can pilot the boat out onto the lake. Chapter 3 then climaxes with a spectacular waterborne boss fight against Del Lago, the monster salamander that lives in the lake.

However, there is a way to get “early access” to the Del Lago lake monster. At any time before you set off on the boat, go to the end of the little wooden jetty and, using any gun, shoot at the water. For best results, shoot at the fish swimming just below the surface. If you shoot at the lake water in the Resident Evil 4 (RE4) remake, the Del Lago lake monster will leap out of the water and swallow you whole. So, you could say you are now wearing a giant salamander “secret costume”, but you’re too dead to enjoy it. In the HD version of Resident Evil 4, this would have earned you the Do Not Shoot The Water! trophy/achievement, but it does not earn you a trophy/achievement in the Resident Evil 4 (RE4) remake to shoot the water. You just die. However, when you then select continue, you’ll resume from just before you shot at the water, so you won’t lose any progress.
