Valor Mortis Getting Public Playtest in October

One More Level has shifted gears to its new IP—Valor Mortis—and moved on from Ghostrunner for now. The new first-person Soulslike is very innovative, and you can finally get your first chance to play it through the Valor Mortis playtest.

We made no bones about our Valor Mortis in our Gamescom preview: “It’s the most promising Soulslike in years.” All Souls games opt for a third-person perspective, but Valor Mortis channels its Ghostrunner roots and delivers a high-octane FPS view for violence.

You can play the Valor Mortis public playtest between October 6 and 13 on Steam. The official Valor Mortis playtest sign-up site is where you need to go to register your interest.

As a 19th-century soldier, you rise from the dead with new powers and fight your former Napoleonic comrades as an infection has taken over everyone.

Here’s what to expect from the first public hands-on gameplay: “The pre-alpha playtest features the game’s complete introductory chapter, including a boss fight, mini-boss, 10 levels of player progression, and the first section of the upgrade tree.”

Furthermore, “Alongside the playtest, One More Level and Lyrical Games are running multiple community contests, including speedrun, fan art, and screenshot contests. Players who participate have a chance to win prize packs at launch. Details about each contest can be found on Discord.

Valor Mortis is tentatively scheduled for a 2026 release. The public playtest will go a long way to deciphering the game’s current completion, and it will give you a chance to mold the final product.

Are you off to sign up for the playtest already? Before you do that, read about Costco has reportedly decided to stop selling Xbox Consoles, and Battlefield 6’s campaign features 9 missions across 3 continents.
