The Uncharted series is so good that it feels wrong if we never get another game. Naughty Dog has been mostly focused on other projects in the last 5-10 years, but rumors abound that Uncharted 5 is happening, and might not be just a rumor.
Many people forget that the first Uncharted was good, but perhaps unspectacular. Whereas Uncharted 2 rocketed the franchise into the stratosphere and established a new hit franchise for Naughty Dog—as if Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter weren’t enough!
There have been many Uncharted games, and it seemed like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy might end up being the end.
Will There Be An Uncharted 5?
An official Uncharted 5 announcement hasn’t been made by Naughty Dog, but many sources claim that Uncharted 5 is happening, Naughty Dog is working on it, and even Uncharted: The Lost Legacy’s director is teasing a potential Uncharted project.
There are a few things to unpack here.
Tom Henderson COVID Claim
Insider Gaming’s own Tom Henderson said on the IG Weekly Podcast (which you can watch and listen to on the Insider Gaming YouTube channel) that Naughty Dog was contemplating making a new Uncharted game, but then COVID struck.

However, Henderson believes that the project is now back on. Tom is one of the industry’s leading insiders with a wealth of sources and information. With the knowledge that ND is working on projects other than Intergalactic, this would all line up.
Alir Uncharted 5 Claims
Some of the Uncharted 5 speculation has arisen due to Alir on X. They’re not an insider, and they have since said: “Okay guys, I’m gonna calm down a few things a bit about my old posts. These aren’t all leaks, and some of them are just assumptions; don’t take everything I’ve said as a confirmation or a leak, please,” in a message on X.
Reports, based on Alir’s words, have said a potential Uncharted 5 will see Nathan Drake working with his daughter, Cassie, and you get to play as both characters. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy director Shaun Escayg is rumored to be the figurehead steering the new sequel, and the game could be released in 2029.
Again, this might be even less than a pinch of salt, perhaps even nothing at all.

Speaking of Escayg, the Uncharted director has seemingly teased a new project in the franchise. They posted to Instagram on February 17, and the picture was of an old cannon, with a simple caption:
“Research…”
A historical cannon? Former Uncharted director known for working on games dealing with history, researching a cannon, and a location? You put the pieces together.
What Is Naughty Dog’s Next Game?
The only game we know for a fact that Naughty Dog is working on is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
A new Uncharted game could be on the cards, and it’s probably very likely that The Last of Us Part 3 is happening. We’ll have to wait for confirmation on those, though, leaving Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as Naughty Dog’s next game.
It’s been in development since 2020 and was revealed in December 2024 at The Game Awards. Naughty Dog could shock everyone and not only reveal Uncharted 5 or TLOU Part 3, but launch one of them before Intergalactic!
