Tides of Annihilation is Going Hands-On at Gamescom

Eclipse Glow Games has just unveiled some awesome news about Tides of Annihilation, the upcoming single-player action title (that’s not a soulslike!). This year’s Gamescom showcase will play host to a hands-on experience, allowing prospective fans to get their first glimpse at the highly anticipated game that has been in development for several years.

Those who participate in a playtest at Gamescom will be some of the first people in the world to experience it, the team revealed. It’ll effectively be the first global playtest for Tides of Annihilation.

Meet Gwendolyn at Gamescom

Tides of Annihilation is a hugely anticipated post-apocalyptic action title that I once compared to ‘Stellar Blade crossed with Elden Ring.’ It’s an ambitious, high-octane game that puts players in control of Gwendolyn, a stunning and stalwart sole survivor of the ‘devastated human race’, a character who wields incredible power in her fight against some titanic enemies.

Per a snippet from the game’s description:

London lies in ruin, torn apart by a cataclysmic “Outworld invasion.” Fueled by fierce personal vengeance and a desperate mission to save her sister, Gwendolyn embarks on a high-stakes journey across two worlds: the devastated, fog-shrouded modern metropolis and the mythical realm of Avalon.

Her quest through iconic landmarks, now twisted, is to unravel the mystery behind her newfound powers and ultimately determine the fate of reality itself.

This will be Eclipse Glow Games’ first title as a collective. The studio, which is headquartered in Chengdu, China, is made up of veterans who in the past contributed to the likes of Assassin’s Creed, For Honor, and Yakuza.

In February 2025, I interviewed the developers behind Tides of Annihilation, eagerly soaking up details about the game’s setting, a wrecked replication of London:

We have restored the famous landmarks of London and incorporated elements of otherworldly fantasy, as well as the base of the Arthurian legend itself; making it both familiar and new to those who are interested in British and knight culture.

Because of the unique background of our development team, we wanted to provide a completely new and interesting perspective to the setting and story, while being absolutely respectful to the culture and subject matter.

Speaking on the news that Tides of Annihilation will surface at Gamescom, Eclipse Glow’s co-CEO, Ary Chen, said:

Gamescom will be an incredibly important moment for our team since this will be our first global playtest and we’re excited to see how first time players experience our game.

The team has poured heart, soul, and maybe even a few tears into developing the game over the last few years, and it’s finally our opportunity to share it with players. We’re looking forward to seeing their reaction.

The full demo will feature branching paths, exploration opportunities, and in-depth combat experiences. Multiple environments and ‘epic set pieces’ will be open to players. At the Opening Night Live showcase, hosted by Geoff Keighley, a brand-new trailer will drop.
