It has already been assumed that HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 would be released in 2025 given its filming schedule and now the company has confirmed it is the case.
Filming of the new season was set to take place in January 2024, but recently got pushed back slightly to February because of Pedro Pascal’s busy schedule. The Last of Us Season 2’s official kickoff filming date is now February 20, 2024, and isn’t expected to wrap until September 9, 2024.
Pedro Pascal’s filming schedule includes Gladiator 2, Fantastic Four, and The Maldalorian.
It’s unclear when the already suggested Season 3 will begin filming and release.
The revelation came when GQ magazine asked Druckmann “People are also speculating how Season 2 will encompass such a large game. Will the next season span the entire course of the second game?” To which Druckmann replied, “it’s more than one season.”
A 2025 release date might be somewhat disappointing to fans, but the wait should be worth it. HBO’s adaption of The Last of Us was a huge success for its first season, with the first episode premiering at 4.7 million viewers on the first day.
The weekly episodes then surpassed previous viewer ratings week over week, with the series averaging 32 million viewers per episode.
