India hopes to achieve its own cultural success in gaming, as The Age of Bhaarat, an upcoming title from Tara Gaming, aims to be the major AAA experience that puts the market on the map.
As in any business, there is a market race in gaming not only to continue selling as many units as possible but also to celebrate individual cultures and create a unique experience for each market. For example, China has seen great success in the gaming sector, and Black Myth: Wukong was a tremendously successful game that celebrated Chinese culture.
Korea also had success in gaming recently with Crimson Desert. The latter was such a hit that the South Korean prime minister touted the game’s success after it sold several million copies.
Tara Gaming Sees India as Gaming’s Next Massive Opportunity

Tara Gaming’s executive chairman, Nicolas Granatino, recently spoke to GamesBeat. During the interview, he revealed that a game that might cost up to $150 million could cost only about 40% of that in India. Still, they plan to raise money as they know the industry overall is going through a rough patch.
“We’re going to raise money, but we are also going to get some non-dilutive money,” said Granatino. “I know the industry is going through this difficult patch. But I also believe people are looking for new content for the market.”
During the interview, Granatino expressed his belief that the Indian market is largely untapped for global intellectual properties. He also questioned the potential success of Indian talent working on projects like Grand Theft Auto VI. He noted that India has 20% of the world’s population and mentioned this in the context of the era following the release of Black Myth: Wukong, “No one wants to miss the next massive opportunity, which is in India.”
Granatino said the game will be more affordable than Wukong yet still a AAA title. India also has cost-effective talent and is leveraging AI. They believe this will position India as a significant player in the future of gaming worldwide. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story of this game’s development and report any and all updates.
