Take-Two Won’t Say If It’s Interested In Buying Borderlands Developer Gearbox

Take-Two buying Gearbox

Gearbox Entertainment might be for sale and one of the possible suitors for the Borderlands developer could be Take-Two

During its Annual Shareholder’s Meeting on Thursday, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked about the possibility of buying the Borderlands developer.

“We’ve had a long-term relationship with Gearbox of which we’re very proud,” he said. “They’re a wonderful company, they’ve delivered for us, not just Borderlands, but also Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and other titles, and I’ve no doubt they’ll continue to be successful in the future.

“We’re thrilled that we have a long-term publishing relationship on these titles. That publishing relationship exists without regard to the ultimate owner of Gearbox. But with regard to our potential interest, we don’t tend to speculate on potential transactions.”

Since the series began in 2009, Take-Two says that the Borderlands franchise has sold more than 81 million units. The last game in the series, Borderlands 3, was released back in 2019 and has sold nearly 20 million units.

Currently, the franchise is set to get its own film adaptation with the movie currently scheduled for August 9, 2024.

Do you think Gearbox ultimately gets sold, and possibly to Take-Two? Who do you think would be best suited to purchase the studio? Let us know in the comments below.
